CLOUD COMPUTING

Cloud computing is a kind of Internet-based computing that provides shared processing resources and data to computers and other devices on demand.
When we created infographics, we used Piktochart and its infographic editor uses cloud computing. The same goes for making our own blog and creating our first post: we used the editor from WordPress. These are reffered to as cloud computing because we did not need to install any software in our computer. The software is in the ”cloud” or over the Internet.

ADVANTAGES
1. No need to install.
2. Saves hard disk space.
3. Easy access to your software/files; can be ran anywhere as long as there is internet connection.
4. Saves you money from buying software licenses and additional hard disk space.
5. No need to update because it updates automatically
6. Minimum system requirements.
7. Back up and data recovery are relatively easier than on physical device.

DISADVANTAGES
1. Can be hampered down by slow internet speed;no connection, no cloud computing.
2. May still require compatible software like browser.
3. You do not own the software; you are simply renting it.
4. Security risk of doing things over the internet as opposed to yur personal computer alone.
5. More prone to hacking.
5. Limited control over insfrastructure itself.

    1. Cloud computing ,used as a metaphor for the internet. And cloud computing is really useful in education. You can have an easy access! Lesson plans, labs, grades, notes, PowerPoint slides – just about anything digital that you use in teaching is easily uploaded and accessed anytime.:)

  2. Hi Ma'am Jolina! One of the advantages of Cloud computing is it updates automatically but do you agree that it can be part of disadvantages too? because it's automatic update ENFORCE CHANGE?

    1. Christine, nice question :) You know the quotation "Change is the only permanent thing in the world" That is the reason why we must not always depend on internet. We must practice saving files or what ever important things that we create using the applications provided by the cloud computing or internet so that whenever there is an update or change we still have a back up of the files, there is no loss in case. It is not totally a disadvantage but I know there is always a reason behind the updates or changes and for sure it is for the betterment.

    1. Hello MArco! :) When users place their data with cloud computing services, they lose the ability to maintain complete control of that information," said Lillie Coney, associate director of the Electronic Privacy Information Center (EPIC). In other words, even if you're happy with your cloud storage provider, pay attention to the files you're uploading, and keep a back-up of everything on a real hard drive at home.

    1. Yes, cloud computing is a metaphor for internet then security for viruses is absolutely weak. That is the reason why it is much better to install anti virus.

    1. Hello Alfredo! :)
Cloud computing has evolved through a number of phases which include grid and utility computing, application service provision (ASP), and Software as a Service (SaaS). But the overarching concept of delivering computing resources through a global network is rooted in the sixties.

    1. Hello Cesiah! :) Cloud computing, often referred to as simply “the cloud,” is the delivery of on-demand computing resources—everything from applications to data centers—over the Internet on a pay-for-use basis.Platform as a service provides a cloud-based environment with everything required to support the complete lifecycle of building and delivering web-based (cloud) applications—without the cost and complexity of buying and managing the underlying hardware, software, provisioning, and hosting. So all kinds of platforms are internet-based.

Yes it is really advisable! It doesn't matter if country is one of the country with slowest connection.:)

  8. Would it be that reliable because as we all know, apps or sites that is so easy and convinient to use is more prone in getting hacked? So why we should use this?

    1. Because without this we cant able to run applications in our computer.

  9. The degree of security -- whether within cloud-based or on-premises systems -- is determined by two factors. One is the planning and technology that goes into engineering the security solution. The other is the organization's ability to operate systems in proactive and secure ways. The largest threat to security is the lack of qualified cloud developers, engineers, architects, and security experts who understand how to make cloud-based systems secure.

    1. I am not sure with that but try to search on google. Anyways, practice saving files so that whenever there is a loss you will still have a back up.

    1. Think how convenient homework assignments will become. The students can work on the cloud, cooperate with team members and share knowledge, and be sure that they won’t leave behind their homework assignments when they go to school. Since they are on the cloud, they can access them anywhere, be it home or school. In other words, cloud computing can democratize education.

    1. Yes. Private cloud is a type of cloud computing that delivers similar advantages to public cloud, including scalability and self-service, but through a proprietary architecture. Unlike public clouds, which deliver services to multiple organizations, a private cloud is dedicated to a single organization.

    1. Public cloud: In Public cloud the computing infrastructure is hosted by the cloud vendor at the vendorĂ¢€™s premises. The customer has no visibility and control over where the computing infrastructure is hosted. The computing infrastructure is shared between any organizations.

Private cloud: The computing infrastructure is dedicated to a particular organization and not shared with other organizations. Some experts consider that private clouds are not real examples of cloud computing. Private clouds are more expensive and more secure when compared to public clouds.

Private clouds are of two types: On-premise private clouds and externally hosted private clouds. Externally hosted private clouds are also exclusively used by one organization, but are hosted by a third party specializing in cloud infrastructure. Externally hosted private clouds are cheaper than On-premise private clouds.

Hybrid cloud Organizations may host critical applications on private clouds and applications with relatively less security concerns on the public cloud. The usage of both private and public clouds together is called hybrid cloud. A related term is Cloud Bursting. In Cloud bursting organization use their own computing infrastructure for normal usage, but access the cloud using services like Salesforce cloud computing for high/peak load requirements. This ensures that a sudden increase in computing requirement is handled gracefully.
